The increasing competition in the global market has ensured the emergence of new engineering materials and products. The inevitability to use newer materials with precision led to the evolution of modern manufacturing processes. Hence, it was perceived to develop suitable unconventional manufacturing approaches which are classified according to the source of energy used to generate such machining action. Unconvention manufacturing process actions are mainly mechanical, thermal, chemical electrochemical, and hybrid. Of these methods, some of the widely used methods of manufacturing are discussed in the reports and journals with respect to their principle, applications, and advancements.
Mechanical methods of unconventional manufacturing processes are: Water Jet Machining, Abrasive Water Jet Machining, Ultrasonic Machining
Thermal methods of unconventional manufacturing processes are: Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM), Micro EDM Process, Laser Beam Machining (LBM), Electron Beam Machining (EBM), Plasma Arc Machining (PAM), Ion Beam Machining (IBM)
Chemical methods of unconventional manufacturing processes are: Electro-Chemical Machining (ECM), Micro Electrochemical Machining, Electroforming
The journals and reports also cover the hybrid approach being taking place by combining different actions to make use of the combined advantages and to avoid or reduce some adverse effects the constituent processes produce when they are individually applied.
